Kansai lies in the south-central region of Japan’s main Island of Honshu. This includes the urban region of Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto and is the second-most populated in Japan after the Greater Tokyo Area.
I married into this part of our world and am honored to spend two to three weeks each year there, mainly in Osaka, observing daily life from the inside with my partner’s family (She appears in some of these images).
This is where I began photographing in the “street photography” genre mainly because where I live in the U.S., it’s more rural and everyone drives, few pedestrians and little public transportation. So urban Japan became quite the treat for my photographic eye. This is a selection from earlier this year.
